While the pharmaceutical industry increasingly relies on large-scale Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to manage costs, many high-value R&D projects require a level of technical agility and senior oversight that high-volume labs cannot provide.
This is where Scout Scientific LLC excels. As our name implies, we "scout ahead", exploring method development, troubleshooting complex impurities, and identifying technical opportunities that others might overlook. We bridge the gap between massive, rigid CRO timelines and the creative, high-touch needs of individual inventors and virtual biotechs. We thrive on unique investigations and the "troublesome" molecules that require dedicated expert attention. By operating as a non-regulated, R&D-focused laboratory, we offer a phase-appropriate alternative to the rigid structures of commercial GMP facilities. This allows us to maintain the technical agility and rapid turnaround times essential for early-stage discovery, while still upholding the highest standards of data integrity and scientific rigor. See our Capability Statement here.

At Scout Scientific LLC, we believe that high-integrity data is the foundation of every successful drug development program. Our vision is to provide an environment where scientific creativity meets the strictest principles of ethics and data integrity.
We operate under a philosophy of transparency and accountability. Our mission is to provide scientifically accurate, defensible results within an ALCOA+ compliant framework. We don’t just deliver data; we deliver the technical certainty required for critical CMC and R&D decision-making.

Scout Scientific LLC is headquartered in the Technology Enterprise Center (TEC), a premier science and technology incubator in Greenville, North Carolina. Owned by Pitt County Economic Development, the TEC provides a collaborative and secure environment for cutting-edge research.
Our facility at the TEC houses our dedicated laboratory and office spaces, specifically configured for high-precision Small Molecule analysis. We welcome visits from current and potential clients by appointment to view our instrumentation and discuss project requirements in person.

Scout Scientific is a privately owned laboratory founded and led by Shawn R. Wyatt, a Principal Scientist with 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and analytical testing industry. Throughout his career, Mr. Wyatt has specialized in the development and verification of complex analytical methods, with a primary focus on High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
His background spans the entire drug development lifecycle, including analytical method transfers, stability studies, and reference standard re-qualification. Recognized as a peer-leader in HPLC and LC-MS techniques, Mr. Wyatt brings a depth of troubleshooting expertise that ensures every project at Scout Scientific receives senior-level oversight. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Alfred University and a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of Virginia.

Strategic Technology for Small Molecule R&D
At Scout Scientific, the quality of your data is directly tied to the precision of the hardware and the integrity of the software managing it. Our laboratory is intentionally equipped with industry-standard instrumentation specifically selected for its reliability in small molecule analysis, method development, and technical batch testing. By maintaining a focused suite of high-performance tools, we provide the technical agility required for early-stage discovery while upholding the highest standards of analytical rigor.
Our chromatography suite is built on the Waters platform, the gold standard for pharmaceutical analysis. We utilize the Waters e2695 HPLC system (2018), configured with a column heater and sample chiller for precise environmental control. This system is integrated with Photodiode Array (PDA) detection for UV characterization and a Waters QDa mass detector for on-line mass verification. This configuration allows for real-time peak tracking and nominal mass identification, providing a level of analytical certainty that traditional HPLC cannot match.
To support complex R&D and discovery projects, we maintain a diverse range of analytical and preparative tools. Our laboratory features Teledyne ISCO CombiFlash Rf 200 technology for rapid purification and Thermo Satellite FTIR for molecular identification. Moisture analysis is performed via Mettler Toledo C20SX Coulometric Karl Fischer titration, utilizing a diaphragm-free cell for high-precision results. These capabilities allow us to provide a comprehensive analytical profile for New Molecular Entities and specialty chemical intermediates.
